"I'm going to talk about Holy Wednesday. I think that day there is great confussion, because when drums are still in the street, the procession starts, and both things are in the street at the same time. It's laughable for me." Esperanza.
"When I came to live here some friends told me about Hellin's Holy Week and their tradition to play drums. This tradition was amazing for me, because in my village it didn't exist. A special day for people in Hellin is the Friday before Palm Sunday, because a lot of people go to the Calvary and play the drums all night without their robes." Lourdes
"I'm going to talk about the tradition to play drums. I saw an article about it. In this article it was written that this tradition started many years ago when Arabic people came here to invade the town. Some people started to play the drums and they thought that there were a lot of people waiting for them. They were frightened and escaped." Jose
"On Holy Wednesday children play drums whith their parents. In the past it was mothers and children's day. On this day people can play the drums in the afternoon. It´s amazing to see how Medinaceli Christ goes around drummers in Rabal Street. When the procession begins, drummers normally continue playing drums in different places like 'Plaza Nueva', 'Jardín del Tamborilero' and other drummers don't play the drums and watch the procession.
On Maundy Thursday the most important tamborada takes place because this day is the night before the death of Jesus Christ and when the procession of Good Friday finishes all drummers don't play anymore until Holy Saturday night.
On Holy Saturday the last tamborada takes place because people celebrate Easter Sunday. The happiest moment is when all drummers get quiet and the Virgin and Jesus Christ meet and then all drummers play again.
In general, people meet in 'peñas' and drink wine, eat 'mojete', salt cod, beans and other typical food." Susana, Ana, Soledad, Yolanda.
On "Viernes de Dolores" evening school children from Hellín meet in a garden "of drums". School children wear a scarf. Each school has a different colour. When all schools meet they begin playing drums. Then, they walk along typical streets in Hellín. Later they come back to the garden. At the end they have a coke with their parents and their teachers. They have a good time. Teresa, Aurelia y María.
